The White Buffalo

  • [X] close

When SiSu Systems first started working with organizations, we were always posed with two questions 1) What does SiSu stand for? and 2) What is the significance of the White Buffalo? For the few that have trained or worked with us, these two become symbiotic, however, for those that do not know the folklore, history, and significance - this may help explain who we are and what we stand for!

The word SiSu is not an acronym but actually a finish word. According to the Finish/American dictionary, SiSu translates to the following:

SiSu see-soo (n.): 1. An inherent magical quality of unyielding determination, courage, stamina, endurance, and perseverance held in reserve for times of adversity. 2.(n.) Tenacity of purpose.

Based on that definition, we like to state that our Mission and Vision are the definition of our name - regardless of endeavor; we want to help our athletes reach their full potential using the guiding principals of hard work, discipline, dedication, honesty, and integrity.

Most athletes do not begin to play their absolute best until five or ten minutes into their practice or game. Active Dynamic Conditioning prepares your athletes to be their fastest, strongest and most explosive at the first second of competition. Through a specific method of cutting-edge training techniques, athletes will raise their core body temperature, actively stretch their muscles, and ignite their nervous systems preparing them for the highest level of competition.

Just like a rocket blasting off into space, you must generate maximal force into the ground below you, launching your body straight into the air. SiSu develops your maximal force while teaching the correct body positions necessary to take off and land quickly and safely. A more explosive vertical jump will bring your performance to its highest potential.

Strength
Development

Strength Development is the foundation of all athletics. Sir Isaac Newton proved in his second law that Force = Mass * Acceleration. One would conclude that if you want to go fast, you need to apply maximal force into the ground behind you.

As athletics are concerned, force and power production are a function of strength - and the SiSu Strength Development and Monitoring System are designed to maximize gains and performance specifically to each individual and their respective sport. We utlize the latest in core and functional training while incorporating power and olympic movements with realistic growth and proper periodization to give your athlete the needed strength, power, and explosion for all sports.

Our program is based on discipline, dedication, hard work, and effort as well as proper technique and application. The SiSu methods are geared for long-term success that translates to better bodies, better minds, better athletes, and ultimately: better people. Our strength coaches include former Olympic weightlifters, former Olympic Coaches, professional athletes, and some of the most experienced and knowledable strength specialists in the industry.

Excelsior Sports

SiSu and Excelsior Sports have partnered to provide the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Region with some of the best clinics and continuing educational seminars around. Founded by Steve Plisk, both SiSu and Excelsior share a high level of collaboration regarding combine testing, program design and approach, as well as overall training philosophy. Excelsior's New School of Human Performance isn't about cookbooks and menus of drills - that's the old school approach. The new school is about best practices. Sound strategies and techniques are based on principles and evidence, which is why they tend to be the most effective and least problematic. The state of the art in any discipline is a moving target, and best practices are more than just an operating platform. They're also a point of departure for innovation and experimentation. Principled, evidence-based practice is especially valuable at the cutting edge. That's where the stakes are highest, but the noise and nonsense are often loudest. Our Strategic Alignment is to help practitioners improve their signal-to-noise ratio.

Sisu systems is an excellent tool for calculating and tracking strength gains. It is efficient and extremely easy to use. After logging on with a user name and password an athletes entire workout regime is right in front of them. Speaking out of personal experience I absolutely loved using sisu. Before this program was available cards were given out that were often lost or misplaced. Also, with the old method after many weeks of training it was difficult to keep all the different workouts organized. Sisu made it so much easier because the workout was right in front of me, and all I had to do was log in my numbers. In addition, the system calculates the projected weights for the next week. My favorite part about sisu was that after many weeks of training I could revert back to week one and see how much stronger I had become!

My name is Daniel Cordisco, and I used the "SisuSystem" back in college while playing football for Georgetown University (Class of 06'). What I enjoyed most about the SisuSystem was that if you follow the workout routines, you have no choice but to get STRONGER and FASTER! The easy-to-navigate platform tailors specific workout regimens to each individual athlete in accordance with their strength and skill level, while tracking performance on a daily basis. The mix of dynamic weightlifting exercises and agility drills are what drives performance. I was able to add over 100lbs to my squat max, 50lbs to my bench press and power clean, and I shaved 3/10 of a second off my 40-yard dash. This System has a proven track record of increasing strength and speed for its members, and I highly recommend it to any athlete on any level!

SiSu Systems (Carl Johnson 2007-present)

Approximately 5 years ago Episcopal High School set out to add an element to their athletic programs that would give their student-athletes the ability to compete at a higher level, be exposed to a intercollegiate level of conditioning and reduce the risk of injury through strength building.

As a boarding school the logistical planning that goes into such a task is very demanding and challenging. Most importantly, the personnel that are involved in the daily guidance and mentorship in this area was a very important element to consider for this particular position.

The opportunity to develop elements of speed, strength, power and core stability is now available to both our girls and our boys student-athletes and we have been very impressed with the implementation of the goals and stipulations that we have presented to SiSu. They view our fitness facilities as a "classroom" and their programming has been geared toward developing functional strength but also incorporates speed training as well. The strength and core training aspect of their workouts ultimately provides our student-athletes with a greater degree of strength that is directly transferable to his or her sport.

Coach Carl Johnson has had the most impact on development in the areas of overall strength, core strength, agility and performance. We have had a tremendous increase in the awareness of this element of athletics, and have great success with those athletes that have been dedicated to gaining the benefits of the SiSu staffs guidance.
